Christopher Nolan has a reputation for using computer-generated effects sparingly in his films. He prefers to capture the action on camera. Nolan's preference for the old-fashioned method goes beyond what is seen on screen.

This week, Nolan said that "his kids would probably call me a complete Luddite", because he's so tech-averse in his professional life.

He said he prefers a flip-phone to a smartphone because he doesn't want to get "involved" in technology.

Nolan explained that it was about the distraction level. "If I am generating material and writing scripts myself, using a smartphone the entire day would not be very helpful for me."

In 2020, he called himself "easily distractedible."

He said, "I don’t want to be able to access the internet whenever I am bored." "I think my best in the in-between times that people fill with online activities, so I benefit from it."

His old-school ways do not stop there. According to Hollywood Reporter, the computer on which the 52-year old writes his scripts is not connected to the Internet.

Nolan prefers to deliver his scripts by hand to actors, rather than send them digitally. Nolan has a reputation of working "in secret", but the truth is far from that.

He said, "It is not secrecy but privacy." It's about being willing to take risks, make mistakes and be as adventurous as you can. It's also great to talk to someone who has just read your work and see their reaction, how they relate to it.

Nolan's films, except for "Insomnia" in 2002, have all been written by him since his breakthrough hit "Memento" in 2000. The hotly anticipated "Oppenheimer" will be released in theaters on 21 July.
