As temperatures in the U.S. continue to rise, those in parts of the country that are unaccustomed to hot summers are cranking up their air conditioners and paying more for electricity.

In parts of the U.S., where people would open a few window to cool off in summer, air conditioners are becoming louder and costlier. In a tight energy market, the increased use of air conditioners is driving up prices and electricity demand this summer.
