Suns Sell, Mets Spend, and NFL Streams

Eben Novy Williams and Scott Soshnick, Sporticast's hosts, discuss the most important sports business stories of this week, including the record-breaking sale of the Phoenix Suns. Mat Ishbia and the NBA team have reached an agreement. The deal values the club at $4Billion. Sportico is aware that there are bidders in the low-$2 billion to mid-$3 billion range. It's possible that Ishbia paid more than the next closest offer. This is particularly evident in the world of private equity (Dyal HomeCourt invested 18 months ago in the Suns at a $1.55 Billion valuation). They also discuss Steve Cohen, Mets owner. Carlos Correa, an infielder who was signed to a $315 million contract on Wednesday morning, is his latest acquisition. The Mets have pledged $806 million to this offseason in contract money, more than any of the 22 lowest-paid teams ($753 million). It appears that the last piece of league media rights will be sold. The popular offering will likely land at Google's YouTube beginning next season. Multiple reports claim that Google is considering payments of $2.5 billion annually.
