Shark Bites Woman at NYC’s Rockaway Beach, a First in Recent Years
A woman was bitten by a shark at Rockaway Beach. She is in serious but stable condition.
Authorities reported that a 65-year old woman was bitten Monday by a shark at Rockaway Beach. This appears to be the first shark bite confirmed in New York City waters for decades.
A spokeswoman from the city's parks division said that Tatyana Koltunyuk was bitten in the left leg while she swam at Beach 59th Street. According to a police document, Ms. Koltunyuk had been swimming alone at the time when she heard lifeguards screaming for assistance.
