A fourth person in the United States has tested positive for bird flu in connection to an ongoing outbreak among dairy cattle across the country. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment announced that they have identified the first human case of avian influenza associated with the multi-state outbreak. More than a quarter of dairy herds in Colorado have reported cases of bird flu, with seven states confirming cases in the past 30 days. The infected person in Colorado had mild symptoms and has since recovered. It is important for individuals with regular exposure to infected animals to take precautions when in contact with sick animals. The CDC continues to monitor the situation and recommends following recommended precautions. The United States has ample H5 bird flu tests available to respond to the current outbreak.
