Kennelwood Pet Resorts will open their newest daycare and training center on Monday at 10936 Manchester Road, Kirkwood.
The new facility, named 'Kirkwood Train & Play', will be different from the existing eight locations of the company in that it is specifically designed for daycare and training, and does not offer pet boarding and grooming.
The daycare portion of the center occupies about half the space. Meghan Dyonzak, the Marketing Director, said that there are separate playrooms and kennels to accommodate small, medium and large dogs. There is also a state-of-the art indoor potty area with its own HVAC system and irrigation system. The center also has a potty and outdoor play area.
The other half is devoted primarily to training. The main training area has space to set up a full course of agility. An additional room is available for pet photography or additional training.
FMD Architects Inc. a Fairlawn-based architect who specializes in animal facilities, designed the space.
The center will have about 30 employees, both full-time and part-time.
St. Louis County records indicate that an entity associated with Hutkin Development Co. a Creve Coeur commercial real estate firm, owns the 10936 Manchester Road property.
Kennelwood was founded in St. Louis back in 1974. It has three full-service 'pet resorts' in St. Louis and two in Ballwin, St. Peters, and Maryville. The 'Kennelwood Fetch' facilities in Chesterfield, O'Fallon and Bar K in Forest Park Southeast, Illinois, offer shuttles to nearby boarding establishments.
