East Alton man charged with drug trafficking, armed violence
The 43-year-old is being charged with meth trafficking and fentanyl possession with the intent to distribute.

EDWARDSVILLE - A man from East Alton was indicted last week on multiple charges of drug and weapon possession stemming back to cases from March and June.
Nichalas J. Paynic (43), of the 100 block West Rosedale in East Alton was indicted in two separate crimes on June 15.
In a case stemming a 6 June incident, he has been indicted on charges of methamphetamine traficking, a Class X enhanced felony, armed violence as an armed criminal habitual, unlawful possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine and aggravated illegal use of firearms - body armor. All of these are Class X felonies.

In a 22 March incident, he had been indicted on charges of unlawful possession and intent to distribute methamphetamine (a Class X felony), unlawful possession and intent to distribute a controlled drug (a Class 1 felony), unlawful possession and intent to delivery a controlled chemical (a Class 3 felony), as well as aggravated fleeing from or attempting elude a law enforcement officer.
East Alton Police Department presented the case.
Court documents state that on June 6, he was found in possession of between 15 and 100 grams of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute. He was also found in possession with the intent to distribute more than 1 gram of Fentanyl.
The charge of armed criminal habitual stems from the fact that he had a revolver and was convicted of aggravated vehicle hijacking in Madison County, in 2015, as well as residential burglary in Madison County, in 2019.
Court records show that on March 22, Paynic was found in possession of 15-100 grams methamphetamine and more than 1 gram fentanyl, as well as any amount of Hydromorphone, with the intent to deliver. He was also driving a Chevrolet Cruze at speeds exceeding 21 miles over the posted speed limit when he tried to flee an East Alton officer.
